High School Swim Team Update - Week of 2/15/21

Good morning everyone!

Fantastic job at sectionals yesterday! Both teams finished as sectional runner up out of over 15 schools. Swimmers combined to set a staggering 78 season-best times towards that effort! I am so proud of the hard work everyone has put into doing their best this season! It is crazy to think about, but we have seen such tremendous improvement from just 50 days of practice! That says so much about our focus and work ethic when we are in the pool! Absolutely excellent work! Full results and top times will be updated to the links included here. Reminders:
1.) Swimmers, please be sure you are meeting attendance during taper. The exception continues to be if you or someone in your house is not feeling well with a Covid symptom. If this is the case, please stay home and send us an email to let us know. Thank you!
2.) Relay spots have been updated based on performances from yesterday's sectional meet. Our relay performances have been incredible! I absolutely wish we could run multiple because I know we have so many swimmers ready to contribute great performances! We make any adjustments with the goal to position the relays to drop even more time and continue to advance. Keep working hard as a group to make our relays the best they can be; it takes the collective effort of every team member to push them forward! Please note that spots are not final and are dependent on attendance and effort at practice this week.
3.) Please be sure to practice the strategies for a good taper we have been talking about at practice. We want to be fully rested and ready to perform our fastest.
- Good night's sleep
- Good diet (especially pasta and vegetables Thursday/Friday)
- Avoid hours and hours of staring at device screens
- Avoid activities that will take a lot of energy (shoveling snow, etc.)
4.) For districts, all policies we have experienced at Spire continue to be in place. This includes a limit of four swimmers in a locker room at a time. All locker rooms will be set to the gender of the meet session taking place. Please please still be sure to wear a suit to the meet. They have asked for no changing to be taking place in the locker rooms like yesterday for sectionals.
5.) We will need to complete the Spire health Covid screening questionnaire to enter the facility as we have previously.
6.) We anticipate the meet will take place in the shallow end of Spire's facility. Warmup/warmdown lanes will be available throughout the meet.
7.) Tournament shirts/gear from sectionals, districts, and states will all be sold online this year at the link included here.
